Dylan's Birthday

Dylan's Birthday party was a huge hit with a bouncy house and an amazing Face Painter. The rain stopped, the weather was perfect, food wonderful, kids adorable and there wasn't even a bug in sight. Nary a fly. How is that possible in Florida? It was magical as you can see.
Happy Birthday sweet four year old girl.

before and after

I picked up these night stands for a song. That's the good part. The bad part is because I was in a hurry I didn't look closely for structural damage. One of the drawers was broken and repaired wonky. One is for Livi's pink room and one for Dylan's purple room.
These were also a Pinterest fail. I was going to paint the drawers three different shades of the base color but that looked terrible. I think it emphasized the flaws. I'll chalk it up to "live and learn" and conclude that Pinterest is dangerous.

Progress

It may not look impressive but I tell you it is. We can't walk upright but the fence is visible in several areas now.
This pile is about 8ft high and huge. The bonfire will probably burn down the neighborhood.

clean up

Working to clear trees that fell several weeks ago when a storm came through.  One huge pine fell and took out several other oaks.

Carter's favorite pastime

Animated gif surprises in Picasa Web Albums

Picasa is creating animated gifs from my pictures in a series. I can't find the menu to control settings for this or much about it on line yet but I am enjoying this neat preview. Did Google buy lunapic maybe? Have info?  Please share.

The first gif depicts Pops getting Carter over his reservations about the ocean or the big water as Carter called it. Once Carl danced him down to the shore a few times he realized it was safe to get closer. Good thinking Pops. The second qif requires no explanation. But the real sequence which netted us several good shots involved about twenty more stills:). Extreme cuteness in this family.
Sure enjoyed our time together family. Must do that again soon. Well except for that one part and Stella getting sick. Hey, it was a vacation. We should consider ourselves lucky, right?

Stella's favorite part of Marineland

Today at Marineland I worried that Stella wasn't enjoying watching the dolphins. It was hot. Those strange things were jumping up and scaring her, and she really just wanted to go to the beach and play with Livi and Dylan. Tonight she has reenacted everything that we saw today.  She didn't miss a thing. She's a smart cookie who will do things when she is ready and not before, thank you very much. She is so much fun.

tomato hornworm

Mistaken Identity- Just changed the name on this post. Last night I read that the difference between tobacco hornworms and tomato hornworms were the strips on their bodies. Tobacco hornworms have straight line strips and tomato hornworms have stripes that are in a V formation. This morning one of the little fellows had flipped over to eat face down in my tomato and I could see the V formation. The mnemonic is V for vine ripe tomatoes for tomato hornworms and straight lines like a cigarette for tobacco hornworms. Who cares. I know but I find this stuff fascinating. I am sure my family will too:) And here is another interesting fact: Farmers use a wasp to deal with them. The braconidae wasp larvae moves in on the worm and paralyzes it. Gross way to go, paralyzed with larvae feeding off you. I wonder if these same farmers know without a doubt that this same little wasp might not like other hosts...like humans or pets or helpful insects. Seems a bit reckless to me.
I don't mind sharing with all God's creatures, I am not growing for profit obviously, but these fellows are greedy. My big beautiful tomato bush has been reduced to stems in just two days and my tomatoes are being gobbled up. Too late to prevent it so might as well watch the show, right? I had no idea they could destroy a plant so quickly. We'll be on hummingbird moth watch soon.

Click on album cover for more pictures. On another insect related note. I am reading Barbara Kingsolver's Flight Behavior. It's about Monarch butterflies and climate change and other stuff. It's in my nook library if you want it, family

Baby shaming

Cara caught this action last night. She said she had turned on her camera because he was pretending to be cookie monster and throwing food in his mouth but he decided to change up the routine for some reason. This is one seriously cute baby. Good thing:)

When I bought this bench there was a tacky little ceramic cardinal glued to this exact spot.

Pineapple Guava

We planted this evergreen two years ago and this year it is full of blooms. I've never eaten a pineapple guava but sounds interesting...

A feijoa may be used as an interesting addition to a fruit smoothie, and may be used to make wine or cider and feijoa-infused vodka. The flavour is aromatic, very strong and complex, inviting comparison with guavastrawberrypineapple, and often containing a faint wintergreen-like aftertaste.

That dawg will hunt gift wrapping

My sweet husband has a wrapped Mother's Day present on the table this morning. I especially like the bow .

restricted area

We've never had much success growing grass in our sandy backyard but Carl has worked really hard this year trying once again to have a green lawn. He has tilled, fertilized, balanced his PH, tilled, planted, raked and he's watered gently multiple times daily. He also used twine to demark the area where we are not allowed to walk. Nollie has taken it seriously.

Today I needed an emoticon of a head on a spike. It's possible that Game of Thrones may be having a negative impact on my personality.

further proof that Nollie is a genius

Nollie brings me her kong almost everyday to fill with peanut butter and yummy treats. I usually do but yesterday I didn't since Franny Dog is visiting. I told Nollie we would need two kongs and I gave it back to her empty. This morning she brought me two. The dog can count. And she understands that it's not polite to eat in front of guests without sharing. What a dog.

what we had for breakfast

Livi likes to play restaurant when she visits. She sets the table with cloth napkins and napkin rings and  pretends we are eating in a fancy restaurant. Today she made a menu too.
